DUSTY BOYER HE ARRIVED, DOMINATED, AND TOOK GOLD The story behind the most dominant performance at the 2026 U.S. Open Pickleball Championships.

Dusty Boyer He Arrived, Dominated, And Took Gold

The story behind the most dominant performance at the 2026 U.S. Open Pickleball Championships.

“He didn’t ask for permission. He didn’t wait for his turn. Dusty Boyer simply took the gold.”

He didn’t ask for permission. He didn’t wait for his turn. Dusty Boyer simply stepped onto the center court in Naples, Florida, and erased anyone standing between him and the most coveted medal.

At the Franklin U.S. Open Pickleball Championships 2026, Boyer was not a surprise — he was a demolition. With a professional tennis background that gave him power and precision, and a hunger to win that seems to have no ceiling, the Bradenton-based player delivered one of the most dominant performances the Pro Singles division has seen in years.

A PERFORMANCE THAT WASN’T A SURPRISE. IT WAS A DEMOLITION.

His game doesn’t look like traditional pickleball.

It looks like pressure.

Built from years of high-level tennis, Boyer brings a style that most players struggle to handle: pace, depth, and the ability to dictate every rally from the first shot.

In singles, that edge becomes even more dangerous. There’s no partner to reset the point. No second layer of defense. Just space… and Boyer knows how to take it away.

What separates him isn’t just power. It’s decision-making.

He doesn’t rush points — he controls them. Every shot has intent. Every rally has direction. And when the moment comes, he doesn’t hesitate.

That’s what made Naples different.

This wasn’t just a player in form.

It was a player in control.

Below, the inside thoughts of a champion.

“Tennis is a racquet for a paddle. Wasn’t a transition. It was an evolution.”

Inside the mind of a champion

The moment the final point landed, the crowd saw a champion. What they didn’t see… was everything happening inside his head. This is where the match was really played.

DA: When you were closing out the final, what was going through your mind?

DB: I was thinking, finally. I had been to a few finals and I’m happy with the results that I had but with the score being 10-2 in that second game I felt pretty comfortable playing my game and going for it.

DA: What does a typical training week look like for you when you’re preparing for major tournaments?

DB: My typical week is a good gym session before I start coaching. I try to train at least a couple hours a day with a few of the other pros. In the shorter era sometimes it’s more singles games or some doubles drills. Everything is pretty simple especially for singles as with my tennis background I just need repetition and constant match play, rather than drilling. I definitely focus more and drill more with the doubles practice.

DA: Who have been the most important people in your journey?

DB: Tina Bickel has been huge for me. I train and coach tennis with her. Lucian Goins is another key person; I coached him in tennis and brought him into pickleball. And John Cincola, who I train with a lot.

My wife, Rose, has also been incredibly supportive, even with all the travel. After one tournament, I took her to Japan, so that made up for it.

DA: How do you disconnect from the game?

DB: I like to keep it simple. I’m always trying new coffee shops, especially near the beach. My wife and I also play tennis sometimes, and we spend time with friends… just normal things to reset.

DA: What makes the US Open in Naples different?

DB: The energy is on another level. What I love is that every level — amateurs to pros — brings the same intensity. The stadium court is always electric. It doesn’t matter who’s playing… you feel it.

“At the US Open, the energy is on another level — from amateurs to pros, everyone brings the same passion.”

DA: The U.S. Open has become one of the most iconic events in pickleball. What makes playing in Naples different from other tournaments?

DB: The atmosphere is unique. The stands are packed, the fans are incredibly engaged, and the crowd tells the story from the first match of the day until the last. And at night, it’s even more electric — the energy really wants to perform and because the crowd wants to see great pickleball.

DA: Pressure moments define champions. During the final, was there a particular moment where you felt the match could swing either way?

DB: Absolutely. In tournaments like this, there are always moments where momentum can shift quickly. For me, the key is staying focused on the next point. If you start thinking too far ahead, that’s when mistakes happen.

DA: Your game combines power with control. How do you balance aggression and patience during a match?

DB: It comes down to experience and trust in your instincts. Sometimes the right play is to apply pressure and attack. Other times, the smart thing to do is to reset and build the point. The best players know when to do each.

DA: Finally, what continues to motivate you as the sport keeps evolving and the level of competition rises?

DB: The competition itself. Every year the level gets higher and more players are pushing the game forward. That challenge is what keeps it exciting. You always want to see how much better you can become.

“The singles throne in Naples used to be a debate. After April 2026, it became Dusty Boyer’s territory. This wasn’t just a win — it was a warning.”

THIS WASN’T JUST A WIN —
IT WAS A WARNING.
