For athletes who have spent years competing at a high level, discovering a new sport that reignites the same passion can be rare. For Seone Méndez, pickleball offered exactly that.
After building a strong foundation in tennis, she found herself drawn to a game that combines strategy, speed, and creativity in a completely different way.
Pickleball brought back the competitive energy she loved—but with a fresh perspective and a new challenge.
From Tennis Courts to Pickleball Courts
Seone’s transition from tennis to pickleball allowed her to bring many of the skills she had already developed: footwork, anticipation, and mental discipline.
But adapting to pickleball also required a shift in mindset.
The court is smaller.
The angles are sharper.
And patience often becomes just as important as power.
For Seone, mastering these nuances became part of the excitement.
The Competitive Mindset
What defines Seone most as an athlete is her mentality.
Whether in practice or competition, she approaches every moment with intensity and focus. Her philosophy is simple: compete fully and commit to every point.
“When I compete, I give everything I have. Whether it’s practice or a tournament, my mindset is to win every point.”

That approach reflects the mindset shared by many elite competitors: preparation, discipline, and the willingness to constantly improve.
Learning the Game Every Day
Despite her success, Seone continues to approach pickleball with curiosity.
Every practice session becomes an opportunity to better understand the sport—the angles, the timing, the strategies that separate good players from great ones.
“Every day I try to understand the game better—the angles, the timing… that’s what excites me.”
That constant pursuit of knowledge is what keeps athletes evolving.
Passion Meets Precision
Pickleball is often described as a game that rewards both instinct and strategy.
For Seone, that balance is part of the sport’s beauty. The ability to combine quick reflexes with calculated decision-making creates a rhythm that makes every rally unique.
It’s not just about power.
It’s about precision.
A Growing Future
As pickleball continues to expand globally, athletes like Seone Méndez represent the new wave of competitors helping elevate the sport’s profile.
With her competitive drive, experience, and love for the game, she continues to inspire players discovering pickleball for the first time.
And if her journey proves anything, it’s that sometimes the most exciting chapters in an athlete’s career begin with a new challenge.
INTERVIEW
The Pickleball Mindset
Dink Authority: How would you describe your playing style?
Seone Méndez: I would say my style is a mix of aggressive and strategic. Coming from tennis, I naturally like to be offensive and look for opportunities to finish points. But in pickleball you have to choose your moments carefully and be patient enough to set up the right shot.
Dink Authority: What strengths from tennis have helped you the most in pickleball?
Seone Méndez: My movement and anticipation definitely carried over. Recognizing patterns quickly and reacting to fast exchanges helps a lot. Also, my hand-eye coordination allows me to generate pace when needed and transition well at the kitchen line.
Dink Authority: You’ve competed at a high level before. Do you feel the same adrenaline in pickleball tournaments?
Seone Méndez: Absolutely. The competitive fire never really goes away. The energy of big matches, the intensity of key moments, and the atmosphere around tournaments make it incredibly exciting.
Dink Authority: How do you handle pressure during tight matches?
Seone Méndez: One point at a time. In both tennis and pickleball, you can’t control everything that happens during a match. What you can control is your focus, your breathing, and trusting the preparation you’ve put in.
